I just found this one on the JPL site, downloading stuff for my science class.
NASA do fantastic science, especially with the fleet of space-based telescopes.
This pic comes from the DAWN mission to the asteroids. The craft is now orbiting Vesta, the second-largest asteroid and soon will move on to the largest, Ceres. They hope to confirm that Ceres is a gigantic iceball.
If so, Ceres will one day be a major refueling depot. Water is fuel.
Enjoy the view – south pole of Vesta, from 2,700 km out.
Plus, since first posting this, I found this fresh news from a conference presentation – just this week.
The latest findings from the DAWN team.
